Bio

Ever since I graduated from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) in 1992 with a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I’ve been an Electrical and Electronic Engineer

I’ve worked on everything from satellites to stairlifts, radar to RAID arrays and mobile phones to modems (for evidence; see here)

The obligatory “bloke in a workshop” photo (It’s a tradition or an old charter or something . . .)

But March 2025 saw the time for a change and, having been setting-up and repairing instruments, pedals and equipment of my own and those of friends for decades, I made the move to be a full-time music technician

I can offer setup, repair, maintenance and customisation to basses, guitars and pretty-much any instrument which uses electricity to make sound. If you have an effects pedal which has seen better days, an e-drum kit which is now really quiet or an amplifier which doesn’t amplify, get in touch and hopefully we can save your beloved instrument from landfill

Over the years I’ve developed skills and best-practice in wiring harnesses, so if you have a pedalboard which needs to be able to handle regular gigging, is a tangle of cables and wires or has just become unreliable, that’s something I can help you with too

I’ve been playing bass to various degrees of proficiency for nearly forty years now and I know how it feels entrusting gear to someone for the first time – it’s always a nervy moment handing over your one-and-only piece of beloved equipment to a stranger.  Especially if they seem a bit flippant about it.  I’ve had a few disappointments over the years, so I’ve experienced the emotions involved and will genuinely take the best care of your kit and I understand how much it means to you.  Not only is music gear not cheap to replace, but there’s also usually a lot of sentimental value attached to it too.  While you can buy a new, replacement pedal, it’s not the same pedal . . .
